Overview Of The Port Of Puerto Madryn

About Puerto Madryn
Puerto Madryn is a city in the province of Chubut in the Argentine Patagonia in South America.

Here you will find the best opportunity for viewing penguins. Punta Tombo Penguin Reserve, a secluded desert around 2½ hours away, is the breeding ground for Magellanic penguins. You can wander around their burrows and walkways throughout the colony. Guanacos, a llama-like animal, roam freely on the preserve.

The Peninsula Valdes, declared a whale sanctuary in 1994, is about the same distance away and offers a chance to see sea lions, elephant seals, Magellanic penguins, and lots of shorebirds via a boat ride through the preserve.

Punta Loma Nature Reserve is only around 30 minutes away from the port and is home to 250 sea lions.

The Gaiman Welsh Village, Chubut’s oldest municipality and one of the few remaining towns to maintain the Welsh traditions, is about a 90 minute drive. Here you can wander the narrow streets with red brick buildings and listen to a traditional Welsh choir.

Other options include the EcoCentro Puerto Madryn and the Natural Science and Oceanographic Museum.

There are a number of beaches that offer good snorkelling and the calm, clear waters provide excellent conditions for diving and viewing the varied fauna and subtropical species here.

Shopping is limited, but the main shopping area centres around the stores that line 28 de Julio and Av Julio A. Roca. Near where these two streets intersect, is a small shopping plaza that offers a wide selection of goods. Penguin souvenirs, jewellery and leather goods are popular buys.

Fish, seafood, mutton, lamb, wild boar and venison are all typically eaten in the region.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock at Alte Storni Pier, approximately 4 miles from downtown. Metered taxis are available at the pier.

There is usually a free shuttle from gangway to port gate.

It is not advised that visitors try to walk into the downtown area as the area between the port and the downtown area is considered not safe.
