About Puerto Deseado
Puerto Deseado is a city and fishing port in the Santa Cruz province of Argentina, South America.

Self guided maps are available in Spanish from the tourist offices.

Places of interest include Ria Deseado Natural Reservation, where you can see dolphins, sealions and many seabirds, Isla de los Pajaros, which offers the chance to spot penguins and oyster catchers and further afield, the Natural Reservation Cabo Blanco, where you can climb the lighthouse for excellent sea views.

Two museums offer local artefacts and relics from a wreck which sank in 1770.

Horse riding, fishing, hiking and kayaking are popular pastimes.

Note: many shops close between noon and 4pm.

Seafood, pizza and ‘parrilla’ (traditional steakhouses) are all on offer as well as limited fast food choices.

Cruise ships dock at Puerto Deseado, which is located at the estuary of the Deseado River, around 1.5km from the centre of town.
