Overview Of The Port Of Portree

About Portree
Portree is the largest town on Skye in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, in the United Kingdom.

As the island’s capital, Portree offers everything you’d expect of a bustling Highland town, with a great selection of shops, restaurants and pubs.

Dunvegan Castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and has been the stronghold of the chiefs of the clan for 800 years.

Talisker Distillery is an Island Single Malt Scotch whisky distillery based in Carbost and is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye.

Skye Museum of Island Life is an open air museum, and features some preserved examples of 19th century thatched cottages.

Other attractions include the Armadale Castle Gardens, Museum of the Isles, Glendale Toy Museum and the Trotternish Peninsula, featuring the Trotternish landslip, a massive landslide that runs almost the full length of the peninsula. The landslip contains two of Skye's most famous landmarks: the Old Man of Storr, an isolated rocky pinnacle, and the Quiraing, an area of dramatic and unusual rock formations.

The area is a favourite with walkers and climbers and nature lovers may spot a golden eagle, pygmy shrew, otter or seal.

Portree's main high street is actually a number of streets loosely centred around Somerled Square. Good gifts include local craftwork such as beads and ceramics, tweeds, soft toys and shortbread.

Popular options on menus include salmon, scallops, fish cakes, mussels, steaks and 'cullen skink' (thick Scottish soup made of smoked haddock, potatoes and onions).
Cruise Terminal
Most ships are required to anchor and tender passengers ashore. However, small ships may be able to dock. A new pontoon at the harbour makes it easy for cruise passengers disembarking from ships’ tenders at the picturesque quayside.

A short walk past a row of pretty pastel shaded houses, shops and bars takes you into the town centre.
