Overview Of The Port Of Port Vila

About Port Vila
Port Vila is situated on the south coast of the island of Efate, in Shefa Province. It is also the capital and largest city of Vanuatu, an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean.

There are lots of activities on offer including abseiling, kayaking, walking and bike tours, horse riding and parasailing.

Both ship organised and local companies offer a varied range of options including a visit to the Eratap Cultural Village with turtle/shark feeding, glass bottom boat, submarine or catamaran rides and helicopter and sea plane trips.

Visit the Secret Gardens (formerly Mele Botanical gardens) Cultural Centre and Native Reserve.

The Mele Cascades (waterfalls) are a must see.

Lelepa Island is 160 acres of unspoilt tropical rainforest and palm fringed beaches, just 35 minutes drive from Port Vila on the North West side of Efate Island.

Nguna Island is an outer island of Efate. Nguna is home to thirteen villages which are located on the north, east and south of the island, with west Nguna largely uninhabited. The island is dissected by two extinct volcano craters, the highest of which is the peak of Mount Marow at 472m.

Markets selling lots of fresh food and souvenirs and many restaurants can be found in the centre of town.

Beaches here aren't public so a fee must be paid to use them.

Vanuatu cuisine consists of fish, vegetables and fruit. Coconut milk and cream are used to flavour many dishes and most food is cooked using hot stones or boiling and steaming, fried food is uncommon. Kava, a traditional non-alcoholic drink, is extremely popular in Vanuatu.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships can either anchor and tender passengers ashore or dock at Port Vila’s commercial pier, about 3km from the centre of town.

There will be plenty of taxis waiting outside the cruise terminal while a ship is in port, always agree on the fare before getting in.
