Overview Of The Port Of Plymouth

About Plymouth
Plymouth is a city on the south coast of Devon, England, in the United Kingdom. It is about 190 miles south west of London.

Take a sightseeing tour of Plymouth Sound and the rivers that flow into it.

Hop on a ferry from Stonehouse and make the ancient crossing to Mount Edgcumbe. The ferry route here dates back to the 11th century and carries passengers over the River Tamar to the beautiful country park, ideal for exploring, relaxing and bikes rides.

Visit the National Marine Aquarium or soak up some culture at the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.

Take a trip to Dartmoor Zoo, a few miles outside Plymouth.

Visit the Mayflower Museum, then see the Mayflower Steps, close to the site in the Barbican area of Plymouth, from which the Pilgrim Fathers are believed to have left England aboard the Mayflower, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to settle in North America on 6 Sept 16 1620.

The Royal Citadel is a dramatic 17th century fortress built to defend the coastline from the Dutch. (Note: as it is still in use today, tours may be suspended or cancelled without prior notice. Large bags/rucksacks not allowed and photography is not permitted).

Follow a walking trail and see the numerous tors (hill or rocky peak) on Dartmoor.

The Barbican is the oldest part of Plymouth, this is where you will find art galleries, shops and restaurants.

There are many dining options ranging from good old British 'pub grub' and fresh seafood dishes to international favourites such as Indian, Chinese and Italian. For a quick snack, try a pasty with a variety of fillings or tasty fish and chips. Cider is the traditional drink of the area.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock at Plymouth's very modern cruise terminal. Ships may also anchor and tender passengers ashore.

Facilities here include cafe, currency exchange, toilets and telephones.

It is a fairly long walk into town, however taxis are available at the terminal.

The Port of Plymouth is surrounded by an impressive natural harbour called the Plymouth Sound.
