Overview Of The Port Of Nice

About Nice
Nice is on the south coast of France in the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of two large bays, the main expanse of the city lies between the old port city and the Aeroport de Côte d'Azur, across a gently curving bay.

Promenade des Anglais is the city's most visible image. A curving 7 km palm lined seaside boulevard with a broad boardwalk just above the rocky beach, it stretches around the city's Bay of Angels.

The central shopping area of Nice is Magenta Square and the streets surrounding it. It's located at the core of the historic centre of the city. There is a mix of expensive designer boutiques, antique and craft shops and souvenirs include fresh pressed olive oil, wines, lavender soaps and perfume.

Cimiez Quarter - the 17th century Franciscan Monastery sits high above the town's centre. Although a mostly residential area, the Matisse Museum, the Marc Chagall Museum and the Archaeological Museum are here.

Lascaris Palace - formerly the home of 17th century nobles and contains beautifully baroque ornaments.

Modern and Contemporary Art Museum - home to a collection of French and American contemporary artists from the 60s to present day.

Cannes, St Tropez, Monte Carlo and the medieval villages of Eze and Grasse are also popular trips from Nice.

Local dishes include 'socca' (hot and crispy chickpea pancake), Niçoise Salad and 'pissaladière' (tart or pizza topped with anchovies, onions and olives). Farcis are vegetables (tomatoes, aubergine or courgette), hollowed out and stuffed with ground meat, garlic, and bread crumbs. They are baked and served hot or cold.
