Overview Of The Port Of Nanaimo

About Nanaimo
Nanaimo is a city on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

Places of interest include Pipers Lagoon Park, Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, WildPlay Element Parks and Nanaimo Museum.

The Harbourfront Walkway is pleasant to stroll down, passing local fishermen, parks, small shops and restaurants.

Take the short taxi boat to Protection Island, where there are some nice walking trails, beaches and lovely views across the bay.

Beach Estates Park is tucked away in the Brechin Hill neighbourhood. The shady, tranquil trail has a number stairs so is unsuitable for wheelchair users or less able bodied persons. The trail connects from Departure Bay Road to the beach near the Departure Bay Ferry Terminal.

Buttertubs Marsh is a bird and wildlife sanctuary. There is a 2km loop trail around the marsh and some observation decks and a tower perfect for bird-watching.

Neck Point Park provides visitors with 36 acres of waterfront setting to explore. You will find rugged rock cliffs, pebble bay beaches and winding trails through Gary Oak groves. The park is also popular with scuba divers as an access road allows for drive up diving. The headland area in the north section of the park is a great spot to watch for Orca, sealions and otters.

Golf is available at Nanaimo or Winchelsea View Golf Clubs.

There are numerous chances to shop in Nanaimo. In the Old City Quarter, at Fitzwilliam and Wesley Streets, a pedestrian friendly plaza is filled with shops, restaurants and boutiques. Country Club Centre has over 50 shops and services whilst the Woodgrove Centre offers over 100.

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. There is a huge range of cuisines here from fresh fish and seafood, Asian and Italian to local dishes, steakhouses and casual options.

Vancouver Island itself is internationally acclaimed for producing good wine, beer, cider, mead, spirits, meats, seafood, cheese and fresh produce.
