Overview Of The Port Of Miami

About Miami
Miami is located on the Atlantic coast in south-eastern Florida in the United States of America.

Miami is such a sprawling area to explore, car hire or taxis are recommended.

The Art Deco styled waterfront district of South Beach has beautifully restored historic buildings, funky shops and boutiques, elegant restaurants, casual cafes and a wide and clean beach. For serious shopping, head a few blocks west to Lincoln Road (at 17th Street), a four-block-long outdoor shopping promenade with unique boutiques and restaurants.

Key Biscayne is an island connected to Miami via two bridges and the Rickenbacker Causeway. Nature lovers can visit the Miami Seaquarium and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area.

Explore Miami history via the neighbourhoods of Coral Gables and Coconut Grove. Coconut Grove, Miami's oldest section dating from 1870s, has fashionable boutiques and restaurants.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is an early 20th century Renaissance style estate.

For serious shopping, head to north Miami Beach's upscale Bal Harbour where shops include Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th Avenue, Prada, Cartier and Louis Vuitton.

Little Havana is the famous 3½ square mile site where many Cubans fled to after escaping their country. Watch cigars being rolled at the El Credito Cigar Factory or visit the Cuban Museum of the Americas.

The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a mix of man made lakes which wind around one of the world's largest palm tree collections.

Miami's South Beach is about a 20 minute taxi ride from the port. The beach at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area on Key Biscayne is where you can find everything from kayak rentals to food stalls.

There are lots of options for dining in Miami including authentic Cuban fare such as 'bistec de palomilla' (steak in garlic) 'vaca frita' (stir fry beef), 'picadillo' (ground beef dish) and 'ropa vieja' (shredded beef in tomato sauce).
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock at the Port of Miami.

Taxis line up at the dock area and car hire can be booked for pick up here also.

Bayside Marketplace shopping mall lies on the waterfront, a 15 minute walk along Caribbean Way from the port. Services such as ATM's, package check, taxis, valet parking, wheelchair rental, tour boats and fishing charters can all be found here.

Adjacent to the south, the Mildred and Claude Pepper Bayfront Park includes a memorial to the Challenger astronauts. The 32 acre park includes a small sand beach, tropical rock garden and waterfall, a cascading fountain and a light tower. Other monuments honour World War II veterans, Christopher Columbus and other dignitaries.
