Overview Of The Port Of Las Palmas De Gran Canaria

About Las Palmas De Gran Canaria
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the capital of Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands located in the Atlantic Ocean.

Plaza de Santa Ana, the main square is dominated by Las Palmas' 15th Century cathedral of the same name. Just off the cathedral square is the 15th Century Casa de Colon, a Spanish mansion where Columbus is believed to have stayed in 1492.

Las Palma's Vegueta and Triana old quarters are a warren of streets lined with restaurants, cafes and shops, including Spain's most famous department store, El Corte Ingles, as well as smaller boutiques selling locally made pottery and leather goods.

Parque Doramas in the Ciudad Jardin (Garden City) region of Las Palmas has traditional Canarian flora, including dragon trees and also the Pueblo Canario, a traditional Canarian village established in 1939.

The Science and Technology Museum (Museo Elder de la Ciencia via Tecnologia) is located in a large white and turquoise building, opposite the exit of El Muelle shopping complex.

Playa de las Canteras beach offers sun, sea, sand and waterfront cafes within walking distance of the port. Alternatively, for a quiet sun and swim, visit Maspalomas Beach, combination of palm trees and sand dunes.

Just west of Maspalomas is the resort of Puerto Rico, which offers an array of watersports.

Local dishes include 'sancocho' (meat and vegetable stew), 'sama Frita con mojo verde' (fish) and 'flor de guia (cheese). Paella and international dishes are also available.
