Overview Of The Port Of Lahaina

About Lahaina
Lāhainā is situated in West Maui, Maui County, Hawaii, in the United States of America.

The Road to Hana is a narrow twisting road with nearly 50 one lane bridges, carved into the rainforest, dotted with breathtaking waterfalls, lava cliffs and sandy beaches. Highlights include the waterfall at Pua'aka'a State Wayside Park, the black-sand beach and lava tube at Wai'anapanapa State Park, the Halfway to Hana snack shop that sells mouth-watering, freshly baked banana bread and Kaihalulu red sand Beach in Hana itself.

Haleakala National Park in Maui's upcountry features lunar-like landscape. The Visitor Centre has exhibits about the native flora and fauna of the volcano. There are also numerous trails ranging from easy to more challenging. Puu Ulaula Overlook, the volcano's summit, can experience strong winds, rain and even snow. It's generally 30 degrees cooler at the summit so come prepared.

Try snorkelling at Black Rock at Kaanapali Beach or at Honolua Bay to see coral formations on either side of the bay.

Attend a luau - they are the cultural touchstone of the Hawaiian Islands.

Book a helicopter tour that flies you over the Haleakala Crater, the town of Hana and the nearby rainforest, Ohe'o Gulch.

Experience whale watching. Humpback whales spend November to early May in Maui.

Try a hike or eco-tour in Maui's rainforests or Haleakala Crater.

For something a little different, journey up Haleakala on horseback.

Maui is home to nearly two dozen world-class golf courses, many overlooking the ocean. Book a round either with your ship's excursion desk or direct with the golf resorts.

There are also sunset sails along Maui's scenic west coast onboard catamarans from Kaanapali Beach.

Maui has more than 30 miles of sand beaches in all colours. All beaches are public. Beware as waters can have a strong undertow.

Located 3 minutes from Lāhainā is Kaanapali Beach, ideal for swimming, snorkelling or surfing.

A good family beach is D.T. Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua, a 30 minute drive from Lāhainā.

Windsurfers head out to Ho'okipa Beach Park in Paia.

Local restaurants serve up tasty Hawaiian/Polynesian cuisine and there is an abundance of fish and seafood on most menus, as well as meat dishes such as kalua pork and Korean BBQ-style short ribs.
Cruise Terminal
Kahului Harbour is an industrial terminal, there is nothing within walking distance worth seeing. If your cruise ship anchors off Lāhainā , you'll tender to a pier right in front of Pioneer Inn. From here, Front Street has shops, restaurants and tour operators to arrange excursions and activities.

A taxi or hire car is recommended if you wish to explore other parts of the island.
