Overview Of The Port Of Laem Chabang (for Bangkok)

About Laem Chabang (for Bangkok)
Laem Chabang is a city in Chonburi Province, Thailand, located at the centre of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia.

Laem Chabang is the main port used for visitors heading into Bangkok.

The Grand Palace was built to serve as the official royal residence and has served in this capacity since 1782, although the current king lives in Chitralada Palace. On the grounds you will also find Wat Phra Keo - the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Bangkok is home to number of temples and shrines including Wat Arun, Temple of Dawn, Wat Po, Temple of the Reclining Buddha and Wat Traimit - Temple of the Golden Buddha.

Many Thais still live the old ways in various fishing villages outside the city. Tours are available to a typical fishing outpost, where you'll spend the day with a local fisherman and his family. You'll arrive by Thai long-tail boat, visit the fisherman's bamboo stilt home, eat a traditional seafood lunch and meet a local monkey troop along the way.

Tiger Temple is a Buddhist monastery that's also home to tigers and other wildlife.

The Chatuchak Weekend Market is spread over 35 acres, with stalls selling everything from clothing, ceramics and amulets to antique Buddhas and live animals. Thai crafts such as bronzeware, lacquerware and silk items can also be found here.

The Damnoen Saduak floating market is about an hour and a half outside of the city in Ratchaburi Province. It is mainly a produce market, but you'll also find typical souvenir items.

Popular menu items include vegetarian or shrimp spring rolls, chicken, beef or pork satay skewers, pineapple fried rice and Pad Thai.
Cruise Terminal
Most cruise ships dock at Laem Chabang, a container port about two hours south of the capital. Smaller ships can often dock at Klong Toey, right on the Chao Phraya River on the outskirts Bangkok.

There isn't much to do or see at the Laem Chabang terminal. Passengers have to travel by shuttle or taxi just to go between their ship and the front gates.

Bangkok is around a 2 hour journey away, depending on traffic. Car hire can be arranged or private car/taxi booked. Ensure taxi drivers switch on their meters!

Klong Toey - no services for visitors here either, however Bangkok is only a 20 minute ride away and some cruiselines may offer bus transportation.
