Overview Of The Port Of Khasab

About Khasab
Khasab is a city in an exclave of Oman, an Arab state in southwest Asia on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It is also the local capital of the Musandam Peninsula.

Notes: In general, Oman is a safe place to visit. Alcohol should not be consumed in public (it is only available in hotel bars and some restaurants). Oman is a conservative Muslim country, and women should dress modestly.

Visitors can explore the beauty of the Musandam Peninsula, located on the cliff of Arabia, near Iran. This is the home Oman’s beautiful fjords.

Musandam is an underwater treasure with colourful marine life, ideal for snorkelling, fishing and scuba diving.

In the bay, Khasab Fort was designed as a supply point for Portuguese ships sailing through the strait.

The village of Lima is separated from Khasab by rugged mountainous peaks. Boat is the best way to reach it, passing fantastic rock formations of the mountain range directly overlooking the sea. The village is known for its local crafts, especially the unique AlJarz.

Book a Dhow fjord cruise where you may spot some dolphins along the way.

Take a Harim Mountain safari where you make several stops along the way to enjoy and photograph the scenic terrain.

There are numerous modern shopping areas, all located in the main streets. These shops mainly feature imported Irani goods.

Local handicrafts such as pottery can be found inside Khasab Castle, try fresh palm dates, which come from the palm groves hidden inside Khasab old city.

There are very few restaurants and bars in the city centre. Arabic and Indian restaurants are the main choices. Most of the time however, only single men eat in the restaurants, women and their families are very rarely seen, this old tradition is still present in Khasab today.

Omani dishes are often based around chicken, fish, lamb and rice and contain a rich mixture of spices, herbs, and marinades. Typical Omani Dishes include ‘harees’ (wheat mixed with meat), ‘kebab’ (barbecued, grilled, or curried meat) and ‘mashuai’ (roasted kingfish).
