About Jacksonville
Jacksonville is in the state of Florida, in the United States of America.

The St John's River divides the city in two, Jacksonville Landing, on the riverfront, is full of boutiques and shops. Easy access to both sides is via a water taxi.

The Museum of Science and History has a planetarium and lots of hands-on displays.

The Museum of Contemporary Art showcases post-1950s art.

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is located in a former estate and features a German porcelain collection, beautiful gardens right on the river, and an interactive children's area.

Other attractions include the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, Kingsley Plantation on Fort George Island, which is Florida's only existing cotton plantation and Fort Caroline National Memorial Park, commemorating the first French effort to establish a permanent colony in North America.

For golf fans the World Golf Hall of Fame has golf courses, an academy, an IMAX theatre and golf exhibits.

The city's Riverside/Avondale and San Marco Square areas have interesting shops, galleries and restaurants.

Amelia Island is 35 miles northeast of Jacksonville. There is a charming historic district with lots of boutiques and restaurants. Fort Clinch State Park, also on the island, has a good beach and nature trails.

Nearer, Jacksonville Beach is a popular and busy beach, with lots of shops, food stalls and watersport rentals.

There is a wide range of choice in local restaurants, from fresh fish and seafood dishes, to steaks and international cuisine.
Cruise Terminal
Ships dock at the Jaxport Cruise Terminal at Dames Point. The downtown area is around a 15 minute drive. Taxis are available at the cruise pier.

Whilst car hire is not available at the dock, Avis and Hertz have direct connect telephones outside the terminal.
