Overview Of The Port Of Izmir

About Izmir
Izmir is a large metropolis in the western extremity of Anatolia, Turkey, located mostly on the Anatolia in Western Asia and on East Thrace in south-eastern Europe.

Izmir itself offers visitors the chance to explore Konak Square, with its Ottoman Clock Tower. The square leads into a long, winding Bazaar (prepare to haggle). The bayside cafes that line Birinci Kordon boulevard, offer the opportunity to relax, sip wine and enjoy mezes of local seafood.

The Agora is an enormous 2,000 year old marketplace where Roman farmers and merchants once sold their wares.

Ephesus is the best preserved ancient city in the Eastern Mediterranean and many visitors head here from Izmir.

Ancient Pergamum and Asclepion are also reachable from Izmir. Here lie the remains of a 10,000 seat theatre, a marketplace, palaces, temples and a Roman bath complex. Nearby Asclepion was once a huge sanctuary devoted to the god of healing.

There are many golden sandy beaches within the surrounding areas.

Local dishes include tarhana soup (made from dried yoghurt and tomatoes), zerde (sweetened rice with saffron) and m├╝cver (made from zucchini and eggs).
