Overview Of The Port Of Hvar

About Hvar
Hvar is a Croatian island located off the Dalmatian coast in the Adriatic Sea.

The centre of Hvar is pedestrian only, with lots of cobblestone streets and stone steps to climb to some attractions. Comfortable shoes are a must! A tourist information centre can be found on the main square - Trg Sv Stjepana.

St Stephen's Cathedral, overlooking the main square, was built between the 16th and 17th centuries on the foundations of an earlier monastery.

Fortica Španjola is a 16th century hilltop castle, with great views down onto the harbour and out to sea.

The walled 15th century Franciscan Monastery is set in gardens overlooking the sea. There is a small museum featuring a huge 17th century painting of the ‘Last Supper’.

The tiny Pakleni islets are a short taxi boat ride from Hvar Town and offer secluded beaches, some of which are nudist friendly.

The long seaside promenade is dotted with small rocky beaches, bars and cafes.

Street vendors sell an array of fragrant oils and spices such as oregano, rosemary and sage. There are also shops and markets selling souvenirs, handmade crafts and artwork.

Local dishes include 'hvarska gregada (fish and potato casserole), octopus salad, pršut (prosciutto) and goat’s cheese.
Cruise Terminal
Most cruise ships anchor close to Hvar Town and tender passengers to the seafront promenade.
