About Halong Bay
Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam in South East Asia.

Located in the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage area, the Sung Sôt or Surprise Grotto is on Bo Hòn Island, and is one of the finest and widest grottoes of Ha Long Bay.

Dau Go Cave (Wooden Stakes Cave) is the biggest and the most beautiful grotto on Halong Bay.

Many visitors head to Hanoi, which is a 3½ hour drive from Halong Bay.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is a large memorial located in the centre of Ba Dinh Square, which is the place where leader Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945.

Nearby is the yellow French colonial Presidential Palace, built in 1901 for the French governor.

The Ho Chi Minh Museum details the life of the Communist revolutionary and displays his personal items. The One Pillar Pagoda nearby is a reproduction of a shrine built in 1049.

The Temple of Literature dates to 1070 and is dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Confucius. The buildings and temples were bombed during the war but have been restored.

Hanoi's hectic Old Quarter is the place for souvenir shopping and soaking up the local market scene.

Ho Chi Minh Trail Museum is around 9 miles outside of Hanoi. It tells of the efforts to supply the North Vietnamese front lines by bicycle, truck and manpower. There are photographs, weaponry and war machinery.

Hoan Kiem Lake is the city's central park and is a good place to relax and stroll. See stunning pagodas, temples and the long, Chinese-style Bridge of the Rising Sun. Try to spot the giant turtles which live in the lake.

Local dishes include ‘pho’ (salty broth, fresh rice noodles, herbs and chicken or beef), Cha Ca (chunks of fish seasoned with garlic, ginger, turmeric and dill), ‘banh xeo’ (crispy crepe with pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts) and ‘xoi’ (sticky rice flavoured with chicken, pork or eggs, topped with dried shallots).
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock at a number of different ports in the Hanoi area, Halong Bay being one of them. Tenders take passengers to shore at Bai Chay, the main tourist hotel area.

At the Halong Bay pier, there are souvenir stalls and casual cafes along the boardwalk.

It is a 3½ hour drive to the city of Hanoi from here.
