Overview Of The Port Of Gozo

About Gozo
Gozo is a small island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.

In the heart of Victoria lies the Citadella (Citadel).

Pjazza Indipendenza is the main shopping area and features the Victoria open market, which sells traditional Gozo goods including local handmade crafts. Shops are usually open Monday through Friday (8:00am to 12:30pm). Popular buys include hand-knitted jackets and beautiful lace items.

For fresh fruit and locally made honey, stop by the markets near the Ggantija temples.

The Ġgantija temples are the earliest of a series of megalithic temples in Malta, they are older than the pyramids of Egypt and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Xerri's Grotto is a cave used as a shelter during WWII. It features beautiful stalagmite formations on the inside walls.

The Azure Window is a natural arch featuring a table like rock over the sea. Two other famous natural landmarks - the Inland Sea and Dwejra Bay are nearby. This area is a popular scuba diving site.

The Miracle Church of Ta-Pinu was built in the 1920's and is a spectacular piece of architecture.

Ramla l-Hamra Bay (Red Beach in Maltese), is Gozo’s largest sandy beach with unique bright orange-red coloured sand and beautiful blue clear waters.

Marsalforn is the largest and most developed seaside resort in Gozo with plenty of restaurants, hotels and cafes. The traditional Maltese Luzzu fishing boats give Marsalforn Bay a charming and cosy feel.

Local dishes include pickled onions, soups, capers, dried tomatoes, goat cheese and Maltese bread

International cuisine such as Italian, Mediterranean and seafood are also available.
