Overview Of The Port Of Goa

About Goa
Goa is India's smallest state by area and the fourth smallest by population. It is located in West Indian region of Konkan.

For peace and quiet, head to Japanese Garden Beach, around 3km from the town of Vasco. A flight of steps lead down to the beach and a small temple is located nearby. There are no facilities here. Take the Sada bus from Vasco and get off at the naval coastal defence battery. The beach is a short walk from here down a cliff with stairs.

In Goa, The Basilica of Bom Jesus is located in Old Goa, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The basilica holds the mortal remains of St Francis Xavier.

In Old Goa there are churches, temples and forts to visit, one example being Fort Aguada, an old Portuguese fort overlooking the Arabian Sea.

Boat trips/dolphin watching are available.

The Archaeological Museum in Old Goa, is housed in the convent portion of the church of St Francis of Assisi, and includes objects from the prehistoric and early historic period to the late medieval period.

Panaji or Panjim is the capital of Goa State. The town features narrow winding streets, pretty villas with balconies, churches and a riverside promenade. The Baroque Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church overlooks the main square known as Pra├ža da Igreja.

The market is a good place to shop for items such as straw goods, nuts and handicrafts.

Goa is famous for it's beaches. Palolem Beach, along with the neighbouring beaches of Agonda Beach and Cola Beach are all located in South Goa and are extremely popular with locals and international tourists alike.

Seafood, coconut milk, rice and local spices are main ingredients of Goan cuisine. Use of Kokum is another distinct feature and Goan food is considered incomplete without fish.
Cruise Terminal
The port is located in Mormugao harbour, around 10km away from the main city of Goa. Trains into Goa are available from the nearby town of Vasco da Gama.

Taxis are usually lined up outside the port gates.
