Overview Of The Port Of General San Martin

About General San Martin
General San Martin or Pisco is located in Peru, South America.

In Pisco itself, there is little to offer tourists, although the Museo Arqueologico Paracas gives a history of Peru with displays and exhibits.

Excursions are sometimes offered to the Pisco Brandy factory.

Most visitors head to Machu Picchu, a 15th century Inca site 7,970ft above sea level. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley. It is often referred to as the "City of the Incas".

Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed to give visitors a better idea of what the structures originally looked like and restoration work continues to this day.

Popular dishes in Peru include 'arroz chaufa' (Peruvian fried rice), 'lomo saltado' (beef and potato stir fry) and 'ceviche' (small pieces of raw fish marinated in lime, salt and seasoning). Stuffed foods or 'rellenos', are common, such as meat filled potatoes (papas rellenas) and stuffed peppers (rocotos rellenos).
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock at the port of San Martin, located in the peninsula of Paracas. Visitors mainly head for the ruins of Machu Picchu via organised tours.
