Overview Of The Port Of Fremantle

About Fremantle
Fremantle is a city in Western Australia, located at the mouth of the Swan River.

Fremantle Prison, Western Australia's only World Heritage listed building, was built by convict labour between 1852 and 1859. Today, it provides a fascinating insight into Australia's convict past.

On Friday, Saturday and Sundays, the Fremantle Markets on the corner of South Terrace and Henderson Streets are a fun and lively place to spend a few hours.

Excursions are available to tour the Swan Valley wineries.

Ferries run over to Rottnest Island from Victoria Quay near the port. "Rotto" is a nature reserve with classic white, sandy beaches, secluded bays and unique wildlife.

Nearby Perth is a cosmopolitan and pretty city with plenty of bars and restaurants. Kings Park and Botanic Garden is set among 2½ square miles of natural bushland with more than 2,000 Western Australian plant species.

Yanchep National Park is famous for its fabulous landscapes, wildlife and late-blooming wildflowers. The reserve is home to koalas, kangaroos, emus and other wildlife.

Cottesloe in Perth is the most popular of all beaches in Western Australia, it's a great place to swim, surf or snorkel and has many great pubs in the area. There are direct trains to Cottesloe from Fremantle station.

Bathers Beach is a nice swimming spot in Fremantle with calm waters. It's an easy walk from the port, located between the Maritime Museum area and Fremantle's West End.

Note: bear in mind there are sharks, and swimmers and surfers have been attacked.

There is a mix of cuisines available including Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian, along with lots of fresh fish and seafood dishes.
Cruise Terminal
Ships dock at the Port of Fremantle. The downtown area and historic district are only a couple hundred yards over a railway line. The Western Australian Maritime Museum on Victoria Quay is a short walk from the dock area.

Free Central Area Transit (CAT) shuttle buses pick up and drop off right at the front of the terminal. It's a hop-on, hop-off service that covers all the main attractions. Most of these are on the south side of Fremantle Station.

Taxis are also available outside the terminal.
