Overview Of The Port Of Durres

About Durres
Durrës is the second largest city of Albania located on the central Albanian coast, about 33km west of the capital Tirana. It is one of the most ancient and economically significant cities of Albania.

Important buildings include the Aleksandër Moisiu Theatre, the Estrada Theatre, the main library and the Philharmonic Orchestra. The Durrës Archaeological Museum, Royal Villa of Durrës and the Museum of History (the house of Aleksandër Moisiu) are also of interest to the visitor.

Historical sights include Durrës Castle, which was built in the 5th century, the largest amphitheatre in the Balkans, located close to the harbour, the old city walls and the Venetian Tower.

Stroll along the boulevards or relax on one of Durrës’ soft sand beaches.

The main street of Durrës is Rruga Tregetare has many colonial buildings, pavement cafes, tourist shops and a huge mosque.

The cuisine of Albania is influenced by Greek, Turkish, and Italian cooking. Meat (lamb, beef, chicken and rabbit) is used heavily in dishes in most of the country and seafood specialties are common in Durrës.

Cruise ships dock at the Port of Durrës. Here you will find a tourist information kiosk. The centre of town is within walking distance.

There is a train station behind Tirana Highway where trains can be caught to Tirana, around an hour away. You will also find some local buses and taxis for exploring further afield.
