Cocos (Keeling) Islands

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands are a territory of Australia, located in the Indian Ocean, roughly midway between Australia and Sri Lanka.

The Cocos Keeling Islands are a group of coral islands that form two atolls with only 2 of the 27 islands being inhabited.

Activities include spectacular snorkelling, diving, fishing, kite surfing and bird watching.

Visitors can relax on empty beaches, visit uninhabited islands by canoe or catch the ferry to Home Island and discover the culture and traditions of the Cocos Malay people.

Pulu Keeling National Park (North Keeling Island) has the very last remnants of the original Cocos Keeling Islands flora and includes species found nowhere else on Cocos.

On West Island, Cocos Duty Free sells souvenirs, toys, electrical goods, jewellery, bags and shoes.

The Big Barge Art Centre showcases a collection of works which capture the essence and beauty of the islands. The gallery also sells unique gifts, such as batik bags, tablecloths, cushion covers, purses, scarves and wooden jewellery.

There are two restaurants on Cocos - The Tropika Restaurant on West Island, caters to western style meals with a selection of meats, vegetables and salads available from the bistro, and Bunga Melati on Home Island features Malay cuisine, which is a selection of rice, noodles, curry and chilli, featuring chicken, beef, lamb and seafood dishes.

Cruise ships anchor in the lagoon located at West Island and tender passengers ashore.

Ikan Hiju (green fish) Tourist Bus is located on Home Island. Car hire is also available here.
