Overview Of The Port Of Cochin

About Cochin
Cochin or Kochi, is a major port city on the west coast of India by the Arabian Sea.

Fort Kochi combines history with a scenic seafront. The old roads and streets flanked by historical buildings are a delight to walk around. The 16th century Dutch Palace in Mattancherry, houses some nice paintings and artwork. The original Santa Cruz Basilica was built by the Portuguese, and destroyed by the British. The new one, built in 1905 and made a basilica in 1984, is ornate and colourful.

From Ernakulam you can take a ferry ride to Bolghatty Island. The Dutch built a palace there in 1744, and it later became the seat of the British Resident. In 1976, the palace was converted into a hotel.

Cochin is famous for its ayurveda massages and there are spas attached to the top hotels and stand-a-lone spa centres.

Take a harbour boat cruise or, if you're staying overnight, a sunset boat trip.

Being India, there are lots of curries using a myriad of spices from the area. Chicken and fish dishes are also available.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships dock in the suburb of Willingdon Island. Larger ships may need to dock at Ernakulam Wharf whilst smaller vessels use Samudrika Cruise Passenger Centre. The centre of Cochin is not within walking distance from these terminals, however taxis and tuk tuks are available at the port. Be prepared to haggle and agree prices beforehand.
