Overview Of The Port Of Castro

About Castro
Castro is a city in Chiloé Island, Chile. Castro is the capital of the Chiloé Province and the city is located on the eastern coast of central Chiloé Island.

Castro is distinguished by it's fleets of yellow fishing boats and distinctive palafito houses, built on stilts above the tides.

The Church of Casto is made entirely of wood and designed in a blend of Neo-Gothic and classic design.

Museo de Arte Moderno Chiloé (Museum of Modern Art) is dedicated to contemporary art.

There are many trails at the lovely Chiloé National Park on the Pacific coast, with it's hills, forests and unspoiled coastline. It may be possible to spot miniature deer, Chilote fox, sealions or one of the numerous bird species found here.

Take a boat trip to the protected Castro Fjord and Chauques Islands or go on an organised penguin watching tour.

Fresh fish and seafood dishes are popular on menus, particularly - sole, codfish, salmon and tuna as well as prawns, clams, crabs, oysters and lobsters.
