Overview Of The Port Of Bay Of Islands

About Bay Of Islands
The Bay of Islands is an area in the Northland Region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is close to the northern tip of the country.

The main shopping area in Paihia lies across the road from the wharf. Popular buys include pottery, paintings, carvings and chocolate.

In Paihia harbour, ferries are available to neighbouring towns, there are shops and restaurants and an uncrowded beach.

Action World (Paihia) is a fun day for all the family, featuring Flying Trapeze, Circus High Wire and Climbing Wall. There is also a 12m high inflatable slide, a 30m water slide, Mini Golf and picnic/BBQ area.

The sleepy fishing village of Russell, a ferry ride away has many fine old buildings and a pretty waterfront.

Waitangi Treaty Grounds, New Zealand's most important historic site, is where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the British Crown and the indigenous Maori in February 1840.

New Zealand cuisine is a combination of British influences and native Maori dishes. Popular choices include lamb and mutton chops, seafood, greenshell mussels, beef, venison, and muttonbird, a bird that tastes like fish.
Cruise Terminal
Cruise ships anchor in the bay, just off the town of Russell and tender passengers ashore. Most ships will tender close to Paihia, which is the centre of the Bay of Islands, where it's a 25 minute walk into town.
