About Ancud
Ancud is a city in southern Chile located in the northernmost part of the island and province of Chiloé, in Los Lagos Region in South America.
Fort San Antonio was built in 1770, now all that remains are well preserved walls and cannons but scenic views of the town and its surroundings can be seen from here.

Other places of interest nearby include the Regional Museum of Ancud, Ancud Cathedral, which was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1960 and the church Iglesia de San Fransisco on F. Errázuriz Street.

Fort Ahui is located in the peninsula of Lacuy, around 39km from Ancud. The fort was built in 1779. Some walls, the powder magazine, 14 cannons and the dungeons can still be seen.
The Sanctuary of the Birds is located at Caulín Bay, where, at various times of the year, many species can be seen including black necked swans and flamingos.
There are lots of activities for the visitor to try including horse riding, hiking and wildlife tours, fishing, kayaking and boat trips.
Local handicrafts and souvenirs can be found in markets and small shops in town.
Fresh fish and seafood dishes as well as favourites such as pizza, pasta, burgers, wraps and salads can be found in local restaurants. Southern Chile specialities such as 'cancato' (baked fish stew), 'chupe de locos' (a rich stew) and empanadas (stuffed baked pastry) may also feature.
