Overview Of The Port Of Amsterdamoya
About Amsterdamoya
Amsterdamøya is a small island off the north-west coast of West-Spitsbergen, in the Svalbard archipelago in Norway, Scandinavia.
The Dutch first occupied the island in 1614, building a temporary whaling station. In 1619 a semi-permanent station was constructed, however it went into decline and was abandoned sometime before 1660.
The area is now famous for it's huge colonies of Arctic seabirds, polar bears, reindeer and walrus.
