Overview Of The Port Of Amasra
About Amasra
Amasra is a small Black Sea port town in the Bartın Province on the Black Sea, Turkey.
Amasra is located on a peninsula beneath the ramparts of a citadel built by the Byzantines. Inside the walls of the fortress is a Turkish bath and Byzantine church that is now the Fatih Mosque.
Amasra beachfront is full of colourful fishing boats and tourist boats for day trips. There are several fish restaurants, a seaside amusement park and many stalls selling local specialities.
Local attractions include Amasra Castle and the small, historical Amasra Museum, housed in a 19th century naval school at the southern end of Küçük Liman.
Amasra and its castle are best viewed from the sea. Operators offer boat trips around the harbours and nearby island (including swimming stops and lunch on the island).
Relax on one of the beaches or take a refreshing dip in the sea.
The region also offers some of the most spectacular natural caves in Turkey.
Shop at the Souvenir Market for items such as marmalade, nut-studded lokum (Turkish delight) and helva (sesame-seed sweet).
Local dishes include 'börek (filled pastry snack), 'peynirli gözleme' (stuffed savoury crepes with cheese), 'amasra mantısı' (Turkish ravioli), 'köfte' (meatballs) and lots of fresh fish and seafood options such as bass and mackerel.
