Overview Of The Port Of Akaroa

About Akaroa
Akaroa is a village in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand.

Akaroa has a distinct French character, in the early 1800's it was the French who first settled this area. It was abandoned when the British arrived to expel the original European visitors, over concerns the French wanted to annex New Zealand for themselves.

Get up close and personal at Shamarra Alpaca Farm overlooking Akaroa Harbour. Alpaca Farmers, Frank and Anya will treat you to an interesting and interactive introduction to these majestic animals.

Akaroa and Banks Peninsula have many great walking tracks that you can enjoy for free.

ATA Creative houses a collection of artwork from local artists and crafts people including paintings, prints, pottery, photography, sculpture, jewellery and carving.

Seal and penguin tours and swimming with dolphins are available.

Local cuisine includes fresh fish dishes, French, Thai and international choices.
