Aalborg

Aalborg is a city in North Jutland, Denmark in Northern Europe.

Local attractions include Aalborg Zoo, the Springeren Maritime Centre which tell stories about the unique life at sea in the Port of Aalborg and Aalborg Shipyards and Lindholm Høje, where archaeologists have found several burial sites and settlements originating from both the Germanic Iron Age and the Viking Age.

Museums include the Museum of Modern Art, Franciscan Friary, Aalborg Defence and Garrison and the Aalborg Historical Museum. The Hals Museum is a cultural and locally historical museum, which is a part of Northern Jutlands Historical Museum.

The Utzon Center by the waterfront in Aalborg is a vibrant cultural and exhibition centre.

In the centre of Aalborg, there are a selection of speciality and large department stores, Bispensgade and Algade, along with other nearby streets are pedestrianised. Popular buys include ceramic, glass, jewellery and mead, a sweet honey drink.

Lindholm Strandpark is a public beach park, situated close to Aalborg and the fjord, only 500m from Nørresundby.

The open sandwiches, known as smørrebrød, can be considered a national speciality when prepared and decorated with a variety of ingredients. Traditional hot meals consist of ground meats, such as frikadeller (meatballs) or flæskesteg (roast pork with crackling) and kogt torsk (poached cod) with mustard sauce and trimmings.

Cruise ships can dock at one of four cruise berths, located in the heart of Aalborg. The centre of town can be reached either by walking, or using the complimentary water or bus shuttle service.
